Partnering With A Sovereign God
God is self-sufficient. Every attribute, might and power resides within God. He needs nothing and no one….yet, here we are.
He created us not because He needs us, but because He wants us. He wants us to partner with Him in His kingdom work.
Do we grasp the wonderful privilege we have to partner with our sovereign God?
Do we appreciate this great calling upon our lives?
Do we understand the responsibility we share in when we choose to partner with God?
Many of us have felt God nudging us to go, do or speak for Him. The nudge may come with a whisper in our soul, a message from the pulpit, a verse from His Word, or even godly advice from a friend or mentor. How do we respond to God’s nudges?
Our women’s bible study is in the third week of this semester. We have a team of three who teach the study. This semester we each had three weeks for our segment of the study. My three week block was to start next week.
Wednesday God impressed upon my heart that I needed to sit down and work on my portion. I had already put some foot work to my study but there was no organization to my thoughts or anything resembling a presentable outline.
That afternoon I sat at my computer for several hours gathering the rest of my information, organizing my thoughts and seeing how God was breaking down this study into its three week segments. In my head I had a rough draft of the outline for week one.
Dinner time was fast approaching so I closed my computer feeling good that I had heard God’s nudge and was obedient.
The next morning I felt again God’s nudging loud and clear. This impression was to be prepared to teach that night. He did not give me any indication as to why. I just felt strongly that I needed to be prepared.
With this nudging I made plans to spend the afternoon organizing my thoughts, preparing my notes, and making an outline for the ladies (all this time thinking I would just be well prepared for next week).
When God nudges us our response should be obedience, even if we are unsure of the details. Often times we do not see the revelation of His promptings, but sometimes in His goodness He allows us to fully experience the ‘why’ behind what He asks.
God is so awesome. He sees the bigger picture. He knows all things. He goes before us and He makes a path for us. He draws us to Him and calls us to partner with Him. When we choose to do that, we experience blessings beyond what we could imagine.
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
Before heading out Thursday morning to my appointments I received a call from one of our bible teachers. She had a family emergency that needed her immediate attention. The situation was serious and she would be unable to be at study that night. She was supposed to teach! She asked if I could cover for her.
Like I said, sometimes God allows us to fully experience the ‘why’ behind His requests of us. What a blessing to be able to assure her that the study was covered (in more ways than the teaching) and she could rest in being with her family.
I believe when we share God moments like these we encourage one another to step out in obedience too. We see the faithfulness of God in the lives of others and can be encouraged that the very same God is faithful to us as well.
When we choose to partner with a sovereign God we are choosing a calling of great privilege.
"Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17
Lord, thank you for your prompting in preparing my heart for your calling. In your sovereignty you saw the bigger picture and you already had a plan in place. Thank you for allowing me to play a part in your plan.
