Hello, My Name Is

How do you define yourself?

Most of us when we introduce ourselves tend to define ourselves by what we do or who we are associated with.

Hi, I’m Marsha, Toby’s wife, Tyler and Nicki’s mom, the women’s ministry director, a student, an aspiring writer…you get the picture.

Who or what defines you? Your job? Your family? Your past? Your failures? Your achievements? Our culture?

Is that definition a true and whole reflection of who you are?

What if we started defining ourselves as God has defined us? What if, instead of tagging on what we do after our name we chose to wear God’s description of us instead? How would our lives look if defined by God’s definition rather than the world’s definition? Would it look any different?

Do you know who God says you are?

We are children of God(John 1:12, Galatians 3:26, 1John 3:1).

We are heirs with Christ(Romans 8:17, Matthew 25:34, Colossians 1:12, Colossians 3:24).

We are set apart for God(Deuteronomy 7:6, Psalm 4:3, 2Corintians 6:17).

We are chosen(Ephesians 1:4, 1Peter 2:9, Colossians 3:12, 1Theselonians 1:4, John 15:16).

We are unique(Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 139:13-14, Isaiah 64:8).

We <strong>belong to God(1Corinthians 6:19-20, Romans 8:9, Acts 20:24).

We are a friend of God’s(John 15:14-15, Revelation 3:20).

We are justified and redeemed(Romans 3:24-26, Ephesians 1:7, Titus 2:14).

We are free(Romans 6:6, John 8:36, Galatians 5:13).

We are called(1Corinthians 1:2, 2Timothy 1:9, 1Corinthians 1:26).

We are a living temple(1Corinthians 6:19-20, 1Corinthians 3:16-17, Romans 12:1-2).

We are united with God(1Corinthisna 6:17, Romans 6:5, John 14:20).

We are victorious(1Corinthians 10:13, Ephesians 6:13, 1John 5:4).

We are a new creation(Ephesians 4:24, 2Corinthians 5:17).

We are sealed by God(Ephesians 1:13, 2Corinthians 1:21-22, Ephesians 4:30).

We are seated in heavenly places(Ephesians 1:3, Ephesians 2:6).

We are members of Christ’s body(Ephesians 5:30, 1Corinthians 12:27, 1Corinthians 6:15, 1 Corinthians 12:12).

We are citizens of heaven(Philippians 3:20, Hebrews 13:14, John 14:2).

We are known(Matthew 10:30, Jeremiah 1:5, Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 139:16).

We are loved(John 3:16, 1John3:1, 1John 4:16, 1John 4:9-10, Romans 5:8, Romans 8:39, John 16:27, 2Thessalonians 2:16, John 13:1, John 17:24).

The next time you have to introduce yourself try adding God’s label to your name tag. Allow God to be the one who defines you. See if your perception of yourself and others perception of you changes when you start defining yourself as who God says you are.

Hello, my name is Marsha and I am a child of the one True King, His living temple, a new creation, loved and known, free and victorious, justified and redeemed. I am God’s chosen daughter.
